Wendy -

I know why you are dividing the TBs but why would you lift the daffs?
Lifting bulbs (unless they are overcrowded and blooming less) is a lot
like potting irises for me....a lot more work and time. If my daffs
start blooming less (and I have them in various iris beds), I just
plant new ones in the same place. I did try to 'find' some tulips and
other bulbs one or two years and never did find them so I just assumed
that nature had decomposed or whatever these bulbs. Living in a cold
climate, I figured that they froze and then decomposed underground.

I do admire people that are so committed to their gardens that they do
all these 'extra' work for their gardens. I think I may be the most
cavalier of gardeners....the less time I spend in the garden _working_
the better I like it. It is a great hobby and fun - with the emphasis
on fun. :) I also plant irises wherever there is a tilled and amended
place - sort of a slap-happy gardener.

Cheers,

Ellen Gallagher
