In one large Iris bed, there are rows of MDB,SDB,IB,BB,TB's--front to
back--when the Iris quit blooming, I just plop down pots with Dahlias, or
Petunias or Pansies--in among the Iris--and VOILA--lots more color in that
bed. There are zillions of Crocus in the front, Tulips all around---,
zillions of Snapdragons--and zillions of small Pansies and Johnny Jump-ups
all through the bed, plus some Sweet William--and anything else the wind
wants to blow in there--
I used to plant Dahlias in among the Iris, but then when the Dahlias have to
be lifted--it really is bad to disturb the Iris--so use the pots instead--
I also have pots of Geraniums--and rotate the pots from the back to the
front yard--so always have lots of color --and can change it whenever I feel
like it--very easily--
Most of the pots are the black ones from Nurseries--about 2 gallon size is
great-- and when frost clobbers everything, I just dump the dirt on the
veggie garden, wash and stack the pots for next year--
when it is time to dig the Iris, out come the pots, and the ground is
reworked and humus added, new Iris planted, pots replaced--and I never have
an empty bed--
Carryl in western Montana--where we are having wonderful weather for a
couple days
