Pat: Schreiners is an excellent source for "older" varieties of iris, that
have been on the market for at least 5-10 years. Because they are such a
large-scale operation, they may not have "the latest and greatest" from
other hybridizers in sufficient quantity to list. They do send large
rhizomes at a fair price (assuming you use their "50% off" deal, their list
prices are not realistic). Understand, however, that the best iris for your
climate may not be the prettiest ones in a catalog from Oregon. That is
where the personal experience of all you iris buddies comes in. Have you
considered louisiana iris, too?
Try potting up the iris you receive in July and August, and leave them in
the shade without excessive watering until the weather drops to 85 or so. I
could see how Georgia summer humidity could cause rot problems, particularly
in new plantings.
