All you wonderful iris-talkers,
Finishing a new bed today, it struck me that I have more seeds than I
know what to do with, for plants I've grown from seed, and could
share.
A few years ago, I raised from seed single hollyhocks and Shasta
daisies that just took off to become outstanding plants. Hollyhocks
are supposed to be hard to grow, I thought, but these went nuts.
Huge leaves and the tallest (and self-supporting) stalks I've seen.
So I just gather the seed year to year, plant in little peat pots,
and let them repeat their performance. The Shasta daisies are bigger
than my spread hand, and the hollyhock leaves look like elephant
ears. People stop on the street and come down the drive to stare and
photograph.
The hollyhocks are hot pink, rich dark near-black, and cream/yellow.
Since it's clear what color the seeds come from, it's easy to seed
just the color you want.
Anybody who wants some, e-mail me at the address above, and I'll send
when I gather the seed in the fall.

Each bloom gives hundreds of seeds, so I have more than I can plant.
