Hmmm, I think that it depends on a lot of factors, not the least of
which is the type of soil you have. Irises are actually pretty heavy
feeders. In soil like mine (clay) I don't have to fertilize as much. In
light sandy soil the opposite would be true. The amount of rain (that
leaches nutrients out of the soil) is also a factor.
