Re: OT: Recovering from overfertilization

Hi Diana,

In the 6 years that this group has been sending messages, I don't ever
remember ever hearing that over fertilization caused an iris to not
bloom. Encourage rot certainly, but not deter bloom. Certainly there
are some vegetables (like tomatoes) that will not produce fruit if they
get too much nitrogen. I am not saying that it is not the cause, but I
have never heard of it before.

First, how much did you put on? Is it more than the recommended amount
for irises? If you had fertilized with 20-20-20 at half recommended
amounts, it would have been the same as using 10-10-10 at full
recommended amount. (10-10-10 is the typically recommended fertilizer
for *spring* applications)

second, I would look for some other cause. Typically the lack of
sunlight is the culprit in low bloom rates.
