Early in my stages of mass iris planting I ran into some serious rot
problems. My older daughter's favorite iris, a rather large clump, developed
rot not long after bloom season. I tried a number of things, but didn't know
where to acquire terraclor here. I've still never bought any.
Finally it got to the point that it was going to die either way so I decided
to try something different. I sprinkled a good helping of lime all over the
clump. It dried right up. About half a cup of lime in the bottom of the
planting hole also allowed me to grow the irises that don't grow here.
In the case of one clump, I'd replace the soil before growing other iris . .
. cause rot seems to be "indigenous." ;-) But, in a desperate case, try the
lime.
