That's a great idea! Pine/spruce/fir/whatever tree boughs would work too;
the sharper the needles, the better.

Most cat people i know have given up Christmas trees because the cats
destroy them, either they knock the ornaments off or they climb the tree. i
have heard all kinds of horror stories. They are always amazed that I have
two very active and curious breeds of cat and still manage to have a tree. I
tell them the secret is the needles. We buy blue spruces and we've had some
with needles so sharp we have needed heavy gloves to decorate them. The cats
stay away. Doesn't take them long to figure out the needles hurt.
