Re: HYB: planting fresh seed


This afternoon, soil temperatures down to about 8 inches were about 80oF
in bare soil, even in an area that only gets sun part of the day.
Coolest soil temperature I could find was 70oF in wet soil under heavy
bark mulch, next to the concrete slab floor of the north side of the
house in full shade.  Daytime temperature was only in the 80s today -
the high soil temperature surprised me.

Spring water is 60oF. A seedflat in the shade on a cinderblock submerged
in the outflow from the pumphouse might yield soil temperatures a little
cooler than 70.  However, it's supposed to be back in the upper 90s next
week with lows in the 70s, ....
