From Mike Sutton after I pestered him offlist - they don't usually plant
fresh, but here's how:
<...let the seeds dry a day or two, then nick them with something.
preferably with a razor blade, the smaller the wound the better. Then
plant them and keep them moist till you have about a three inch fan, or
winter, whatever comes first. After the three inch fan shows, you can
back off the water and let the ground dry for three days or so. The
best bet is to create a very well drained soil base that is raised. The
trick is to keep them damp but drained. If they sit in water you will
get "damp outs" and they will die. If you keep them moist but they don't
have enough air going to the roots the will "damp out" and die. If you
don't keep them moist they will die. Fun, huh? That's why we dry,
soak, freeze, refrige etc. much less death involved. :-)
....when you originally dry the seeds you can nick them before you dry
them, it's easier. I put them straight in the sun to dry for two days.>
How long till they sprout?
<you must be patient.........from 3 weeks to 2, yep, 2 years. Mike>
