I was having the same problem identifying an historic in my
yard.  Very old - similar to what you describe.  Everyone
said it was Wabash - I don't think it is.  I've looked and
looked at all sorts of pictures on the internet, trying to
match my baby.  Here's what I found:

Run this by your friend and see if it's closer - it's a 1910
introduction.  They say it's a TB but bloom stalks are
shorter . . . .perhaps almost IB.  Growth is rampant - which
describes mine to a tee!
