Ok, that's all fine and good, but she says she's almost sure the
standards are white, not orchid, and she thinks the cultivar is
really, really, really old, antique, neolithic. Fifty years or so....
'mom's great-grandmother had it' They went up to the old farmstead
after it was sold and recovered these irises and they have been
passed down ever since. "Mom says they were there on that farm when
I was little," at least 45-50 years ago. "White tops, and purple
bottoms, and yellow beards"
Of course we aren't looking at the flower so it's all just spit in
the wind, until it blooms.
She thinks the form is very historic anyway, so probably an '84 model
would be too modern in form. Do they reuse names? Do they keep a
record of it if they reuse the name? Could this be a long lost
presumed out of circulation iris?
We do know that these have been divided regularly, for whatever
that's worth.
Does anybody know of a way to keep/ build up these irises? Like does
an iris get tired of itself after increasing for so many generations?
They were in a flood prone zone, and right now could just be stressed
from being moved in the wrong season. (October)
