Re: OT-Plants: Daylilies

For those who are interested, this is the website with the most
comprehensive info on Daylily Rust.

http://www.daylilyrust.org/

So far, it does appear that the rust does not overwinter from Zone 5
on north, but this past winter was so unusually warm in much of the
country, so the jury is still out on how hardy it is.

Yes, Rust can come to established plantings, usually via new
acquisitions that come from rust infested sources or via clothing
from garden tours, it can also arrive via the wind or pollinators if
someone nearby has it. There are control methods, but they would
sure ruin the Daylily's reputation as a "carefree" plant to have to
resort to them.

(personally limiting acquisitions to growers known to me, or from
Zone 4 or 3)
