Dave,
If you will notice I modified your subject line to include a tag. It helps
us figure out whether or not to read them. Anyway, I will attempt to answer
a few of these:
#1 - No I would NOT put them where they get more shade. My iris grow in
west Texas right out in the middle of a field. No shade at all!!
#2 - How long it takes for the TB's to start growing again depends on your
cultural conditions. If it is really hot right now they may tend to sit
still and grow roots, waiting for it to cool off a little before they put
out new leaves.
#3 - Not knowing what kind of soil you have makes this harder to answer.
TB's will grow almost anywhere. They prefer soil that is not too rich or
too wet. Too wet and they rot. Too rich and they rot or just grow lots of
wonderful foliage with little to no bloom. They also tolerate a wide range
of PH.
It sounds like you are growing yours in pots? Personally, I would not use
straight potting soil. Maybe a 50/50 mix of potting soil and garden soil.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [iris-talk] A question or 2 about TB's
Hello ! I have posted questions about LA Iris and did not get any
responds. So here's a few about TB's.
I have about 50 TB's growing here in south Louisiana (from trades, you
can not buy them here) Of the first 24 I got (about 2 months ago) one
has gotten soft and mushy. two had all the leaves die, my wife pulled
one up and it had a lot of new roots, so I put it back in the pot.
Only about 4 have any leaf growth, all seem to have a lot of new
roots. They get about 8 hours sun and watered ever 3 or 4 days.
Question #1 Should I put them were they get more sade ?
Question #2 How long does it take for them (TB's) to start growing?
Question #3 What mix of soil should I put in my garden for the TB's?
Thank You!
