Don't worry about 'em.  They won't do much harm (unlike the rot potential
from damaged rhizomes).  If they are too shredded, you can always trim them
back, but I wouldn't bother.  I always hate to see that too, but that's just
because I'm a softie.  I use the cheap "magic marker" method.  Some of the
big nurseries use hard labels so that old, dried-out stock can still be
identified when the leaves are shriveled and brown, and penmanship is not an
issue.  Some growers send excellent fresh rhizomes, and just aren't too
worried about a little tear at the tip of the leaves.
