Hmmm, well, the first questions aren't based on the archives...
I am in love with McKellar's Grove (Hager 00), or at least the
pictures of it. This distresses me greatly since I HATE HATE HATE
anything orange. <g> So before I sell the farm to buy this pricey
cultivar, is anyone growing it? What are your general impressions?
Has anyone used it as a parent? Any thoughts?
Also, in this years daubing I used Everything Plus quite heavily, but
nothing took, so I'm wondering about this cultivar as a parent as
well.
While I'm at it I should go ahead and ask about Triple Whammy as a
parent too.
And is there some kind of genetics problem with using AB irises, lack
of fertility etc. I find that I like a few of the arilbreds but I
don't think that my conditions are right for a whole bunch of them.
Is it like against the rules to use AB plants for parents in a TB
program?
Linda Mann, or Betty Wilkerson, can either of you spare a rhizome of
Tea Leaves? You both mentioned it circa 2000 rebloom season.
I have been most intrigued by all the discussion about seed
germination techniques. One thread suggested that seeds that were
still green/white but otherwise appeared to be mature may not have
the germination inhibitors present that tan seeds harvested when the
pods are completely dry have. I think they even said green seeds
germinate faster. If that is true, then why do we wait until the
pods dry and go through all the rigamarole of soaking them to leach
out the inhibitors? If you could induce earlier germination by using
green seeds, couldn't that cut down your wait to first bloom?
There seems to be one theme that is very frequently discussed and
that is what grows well for who, where. I was wondering if it might
not be possible to use this list to find wide ranges of test gardens
for seedlings? Sort of a test garden network. Or is there some kind
of politics involved in who gets to be test gardens an stuff?
