Hello Jean,
It sounds like you think I'm responsible for iris-photos and other services
via hort.net. Not me! Chris Lindsay is the one who does the work and
provides these.
As for donations, I think that must be left up to each individual. Suppose
they weren't free? What would you be willing to pay to access them? If you
use them consistently, what is the value to you? I only use his iris
portions, but he has other pages set up for other plants. If everyone who
takes advantage of what he is providing just gave something, I can't help
but believe what he has accumulated so far would be considerably higher than
it appears to be. He's not complaining. I suppose, in a way, I'm
complaining on his behalf. I do use the sites set up for irises. I would
be unhappy if they went away because they became an albatross financially,
making it impossible to continue to maintain them. It would be a loss of a
great resource that is being provided free. They operated a long time
before he requested help to keep them going. Just to have the photos online
must require a good bit of technology. Yahoo doesn't store them at all
anymore.
