CULT: survival in the 'vale' (was species list: Tigridia

Linda, I would love to try some of your seedlings that have been the toughest
and best of your fascinating pedigreed seedlings. Not this year, however.
I've cancelled most of my orders and trying to give myself a break in getting
soils reworked.

I'm just not getting out into the garden at all right now--my relearning what
I can and cannot do post reconstruction has not been easy and I still have a
lot of learning to do. Thus, the garden looks more and more abandoned.
Sorry. Give me a season to adapt and I will.

The seedling lots from which I had such drastic losses last summer have not
shown a single additional loss. It looks as though the susceptible ones were
sorted out, leaving the tougher, more adaptible to our climate remaining.
They are growing at great pace now with lots of increase beginning to show
up.

The few crosses that survived to maturity last summer have had rather low
germination rates, but are lusty growers--still in their pots. Eventually
I'll get them set out. They aren't suffering any, though. I fed them some
Ozmocote, which is a slow release nutrient mix and does wonders for potted
plants in general.
