HYB: pods ripening

The first pod ripened today: LUMALITE x ELFIN SENTINEL. This is a back cross,
since LUMALITE is a parent of ELFIN SENTINEL, so 'twill be interesting to see
what comes of it.

Meantime, with 7 new raised beds constructed, I'm in the middle of setting out
this year's sprouts. Germination was poor this year in Region 4, generally,
from all reports, but those that did germinate here have good root systems
reaching to the bottom of their mum pots.

I'm using a variation of Colleen's seed holdover method. Since the dirt left
over from a mum pot is far too much to pile at the end of a row, at least in
my space-hungry gardens, I am shaking/scraping the top level of dirt (where
the ungerminated seeds are) from the pot as I take out the sprouts. This
handily fills a little aluminum loaf pan, which, tagged, will sit out in the
seedling pot frame until nature decides to give a second bite at the apple.

I salvaged three volunteer seedlings from last year's used dirt pile. --
