Hello, I am sure this topic has been covered before, but I would like to trace the history of Purple Based Foliage and purple rhizomes. Any links or posts would be deeply appreciated.
I found an iris dubbed "I. pallida" at K-mart, no flowers to get a better idea, but nice bright purple based foliage close to the rhizome. The other "I. pallida" dubbed shelf mates did not have noticeable PBF, that is why I grabbed the one plant I did. The plant I rescued did not have an "i.d. tag".
I also discovered 4 of 5 of my seedlings from TB crosses, not immediately involving I. pallida that have PBF. One sib definitely doesn't have the PBF...
Just kind of curious which iris species and historics are resposible for modern TB's and SDB's that have the PBF.
Seems some of the digging and reading informed me that I. pallida isn't even the responsible iris for PBF. hmmm.... possibly misinformed me or was misinterpreted...
Thanks for your time and help.
