Thanks much Neil.
One question - can "violet or blue" also be white? In other words,
aren't red-bearded whites fully tttt but with the pink not expressed or
hidden?
<The pigment *looks* pink only when no violet or blue shows. >
The murky yellow PINK FORMAL seedling, (parent to the pink seedling in
the photo) has pink pigment present (I did extractions this spring), so
it is tttt, but looks muddy brownish yellow, not at all pink. And to my
color challenged brain (and possibly color challenged eyes, based on the
recent post about color), the beards do not look tangerine. I will
definitely take a photo next spring.
The other parent (amoena with no pink <or> yellow pigment expressed) is
at least TTtt and could be Tttt.
So from what you say, I could expect either 1/6 or 1/2 pink, if
everything else were 'normal'.
There were 68 seeds in the cross (2004), 12 surviving seedlings from
winter germination, one bloomed this spring (pink). If it's true that
pinks germinate first and most easily, most of these may turn out to be
pink, since 1/6 of 68 is about 11 <I wish....g>.
Unfortunately, there were no seedlings from this cross that came up the
second year.
