Char, I've been told that Roundup only effects the plants. That it is
neutral once it hits the soil. Last year I used roundup before planting in one bed
and around seedlings in another with no visible ill effect. Soon as I get a
dry morning I'll be spraying another tilled bed.
Last year, I thought there was a problem using preen in two of the seedling
beds, I'm not so sure now. This year's seedling beds were planted 2-3 weeks
apart and the first one, planted in late May, is growing much better than the
later one. May be enough to equal the difference last year. Still not
sure. It's so hot & humid that I've been afraid to apply fertilizer as I did
last year. Still, they are growing pretty well after the rains.
