RE: HYB: Color charts

It seems to me that we do not have any ways to describe plants that are not fraught with problems. But I believe by combining methods there is a somewhat better understanding produced. Photos and or color chart readings take time and although I would love to see them with a registration I doubt that I would ever advocate they should be mandatory. Test gardens and display gardens could play a role in providing such data. Although I know through the years test gardens have become rare, the legacy they have left when documented has been a primary source for much information seen in Roots and elsewhere. Much of this information seems trivial at the time but later gathers greater importance as a verification tool.

I am very interested in how the Pantone system could work. My monitor my digital camera and several of my programs all make claims to using the Pantone system yet I still see lots of variation. I am afraid it would take a small booklet to bring every Irisarian up to speed on how to use this system. I have to admit I know nothing about how or whether it is working for me.

I was wondering, during this reading of the thread, if the Pantone colors
compare at all with the RHS colors. Pantone colors are widely used in
printing and you can specify your colors by the Pantone number when sending
in a job to be printed. You can even get software to calibrate you monitor
to show the colors according to the Pantone system.
