Linda -- This (better performance in the season of maiden bloom) is an interesting trait. I've noticed that HAUNTING (introduced 2006), which first bloomed on Halloween eve, puts on its best show in the fall. Although the spring bloom is perfectly fine, the flowers are noticeably larger and the color more red-violet (than blue-violet) in the fall. Also, one clump of HAUNTING skipped spring bloom a couple of years ago. -- Griff

The only anomalies I've seen have been for those few seedlings that have had maiden bloom in the fall. Two seedlings had very nice maiden bloom, then crummy bloom (small, colors & form not as nice) the following spring, and so far, haven't bloomed in the fall again. The poorer bloom in spring is probably due to spring freeze damage and dry weather during bloom, so that doesn't help answer your question at all :-(-- Linda Mann east Tennessee USA zone 7/8 East Tennessee Iris Society <http://www.DiscoverET.org/etis> American Iris Society web site <http://www.irises.org> talk archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-talk/> photos archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-photos/> online R&I <http://www.irisregister.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
