RE: HYB: Sugar Water vs Potato

Well, I didn't measure either the water or the sugar, just put a pinch in
about 3 inches of water in a medium cheap vase. The dilemma was
whether to leave all 3 pods on. The oldest pod was almost 5 weeks -
they all matured well. The second pod was 4 weeks - yielded 16 good
and 6 so-so looking seeds. The third pod was 22 days and wound up
with 4 nice looking seeds, 6 so-so and 4 pathetic. Of course, I've had lots
of good looking seeds that never sprouted...

I did give it a fresh cut, even though it broke off while a cat was
cavorting around me. Only changed the sugar water about once a week
(kept forgetting about it), cutting about a half inch off each time. Kept
it in an east window.

Am guessing the 22 day pod would have done better if it was the only
one on the stalk. Also thought about putting a tiny bit of Miracle Gro
in the water. Might try that next time. The drought has been so severe
that this might have been better than on the plant. Pods were still full
of juice at 60 days.

Don't foresee having the time, but it would be interesting to make identical
junk crosses, take the stalks at 3 weeks, try different means to mature
them, then see if the seeds would actually sprout.
