This is starting to sound
like a poultry forum I left... Conceded-ness is next to jerky-ness in my book.
   Let's just talk irises.

OK, I'll just post one note on this -- pardon me, list members, for a
moment
--

Anner, when you act like a jerk, it just makes you look very
unprofessional.
I posted a response to you in good faith. What is wrong with
you that you
are so hostile?

You know, it's possible when you receive
"unsolicited crap about irises from
folks you've
never heard of...." that you
might answer their questions, tell them a
couple of iris websites to
look at,
that kind of being-kind-in-the-world kind of thing.

And if you want to
compare IQs, I'll win.

Gesine,?

So nice that you are
finally finding your way around the internet. Better
late than never!?

I
think, that, like those of us who have been computer literate for?years,
you
will find?the web?to be an important?and exciting resource. Google
does?link
to?a good deal of useful material, don't they, I mean, when they
are not
trying to run roughshod over people's legal rights? Of course, it's
still
really a matter of?knowing what to?make of?the information?you find,
isn't it?
I call?Google the dilletante's best friend.

And it's?good that you have such
knowledgeable human resources! That must be
a great comfort to you. I have
knowledgeable friends, too, in fact I live
with a computer security expert.
I've learned all sorts of
interesting?things from him over the years.

I'm
going to bustle off now and?check into?changing my email
addresses,?because,
when you start receiving unsolicited crap about irises
in from?folks you've
never heard of?on a master?email address that has not
been used publicly for
well over a decade,?you?actually don't have to put up
with it.
?
You take
care, now. Always remember to keep your?virus protection up to
date, and watch
out for those unexpected porn sites!?

OT: Iris - archives found by Google

Hi Anner and all,

I really doubt that
there's any connection between the
archives showing advertising, and Google's
having
found the archives.

One of my best friends works at a very high level
in
computer security/encryption/etc. (he & partner were
doing computer
security for a European government).
He says -- if you put it on the internet,
it's findable. Period.

Google has been finding more and more things
ongoingly,
which one could also see as a good thing (e.g. people
looking for
information on iris can find more of it).

What worries you about this? I
wasn't on the internet
until late 2000, but I can find old cat-rescue-training
things
I wrote then, 9 years ago -- and sure I'd write them better
now, but I
think people do tend to notice dates of things.

And if it's "higher internet
profile" that worries you, it's
kind of too late (start of bad science fiction
movie here) --
email addresses have been pretty easy to find, if people
really
want to find them -- and posting on groups is very
findable.

Gesine

ps
another side of Google -- they've got scans of a lot of
old iris stuff now! in
Google documents

*********************
So, I guess it must just be
coincidental that this hit-inducing change---
and the resulting higher
internet profile for all posters, past and
present--- comes to one's
attention around the time the Archives start
showing a
lot of advertising.
Silly old me to wonder about such things.
