<<I would not make the assumption that you accuse me of.>>Robert, I had no intention of accusing you of anything. My understanding of your dream was to list all introductions from a given iris to indicate what the iris is capable of as a parent. I simply suggested that a list of the introductions would not tell anyone everything an iris is capable of producing. Any given iris is only a percentage of the input, depending on whether it's a pod parent or a pollen parent. (It does matter.) My belief is that a list of the introductions only gives part of the picture. Just my opinion.
Linda, you would be looking for the "different" seedling. Potential. My example would tell you that a copper seedling is possible from those two parents. Rare but possible.
Only the hybridizer sees all that blooms from a given cross. In order to know the real potential, you would need those numbers.
Maybe it's just a lot harder when working with cold weather rebloom. For instance: (just an example) If you look at the R & I you will see some interesting things from 'Renown.' Based on these, who would have imagined it would breed a bright yellow seedling when crossed onto 'Born to Exceed?' Both are of the blue/purple persuasion. I'll never introduce it, so it won't show up on any charts.

I have the opposite idea - that the brown showing up from yellows would tell me such a thing is possible. And the visual you describe would solidify that concept for me. Betty and I <really> aren't clones! :-) On 7/19/2012 9:56 AM, Robert Pries wrote:
