I visited the CIS glossary page on Chris' kind suggestion, (and
clickable URL..I don't know how to do that yet!)

Is anyone else surprised by the two following definitions?"


"Fluting: gentle dips and rises in the petal edges. 

"Spur: a short side stem which may or may not be near the top of the
Stigmatic lip: the lip like petal under the style crest which receives
the pollen." 


That's not how I have understood those terms. I'm especially having
trouble visualizing a spur next to a stigmatic lip. Seems to me it would
be too heavy for the petal and distort the flower pretty to the point of
'fault'.
Is that what's really meant?
