OT: PBF Project -- RIP

Some time ago, I promised a "Quick Look" report on the data submitted for=

this project through the first of July. =

I received about one-tenth of the number of observations I thought would =
be
needed to obtain any significant statistics, but I went ahead and prepare=
d
some of the matrices in hopes that my educated guess had been too
pessimistic. It wasn't. There were not enough data for:

1. Geographical analysis. Not even something so broad as east vs.
west of the Rocky Mountains or east vs. west of the Mississippi.

2. Breakdown by zones. No observations at all from some zones. I w=
as
able to form a matrix for Zones 3 through 6 vs. 7 through 9, but it had
the same sparse data problem as the geographical ones.. =

3. Assessment by age. Same problem. no hope of the breakdown by
decade I'd hoped to get. =

I do appreciate the time and effort of those people who took the time to
make observations and send them to me, but I think it's time to acknowled=
ge
that there's just not enough overall interest in this question and pull t=
he
proverbial plug on the project. The few northerners who are still having=

bloom, and those from the southern hemisphere whose bloom season hasn't y=
et
started can't possibly compensate for the sparse nature of the rest of th=
e
observations.

So my report is simply:

PBF Project, RIP
