Aaauggh!!
This is great stuff. Is most of this covered in the World of Iris?
I have been trying to wade through a book on genetics of disease
resistance in plants,by Vanderplank, and their basic premise is that
plants can either use energy to fight disease or to make flowers and
fruits, so the more flower production is maximized, the greater the
likelihood of less disease resistance. (I think that's right - I've
only read part of the introduction so far - kinda heavy slogging).
Any intuition/knowledge about how many "genes" control number of flowers
produced, dominant/recessive, ... anything?
I wonder if the same applies to "sudden freeze" tolerance - the more
blooms, the less resistant. Ditto "bug" resistance.
