"Most?"  Now that's a subjective call I'm not willing to risk -- but a

In simpler terms, there are two survival mechanisms at work here.  One is=

to reproduce so fast that the mortality rate really doesn't matter that
much.  The other is to produce such tough babies that not many are needed=

to ensure the survival of another generation.  The tradeoff is much less
important in plants like iris that reproduce vegetatively. =
