HYB: Nomenclature

I composed some notes in haste today, and belatedly realized I didn't
define my terms. I hope this helps:

Karyotype -- the number, form, and type of chromosomes of a cultivar. Th=
is
is the most gross measurement, relatively easy to determine.

Genotype -- the individual genes actually present in a cultivar (usually=

unknown and unknowable, but estimated).

Phenotype -- the physical appearance, as dictated by the genes actually
expressed.

Crossing-over -- the physical exchange of segments of paired chromosomes.=
 =

Usually homologous ones, but sometimes even mismatched ones yield a viabl=
e
embryo.
