SPEC - Vesper iris

My Vesper iris have started blooming. :) They are sooo pretty and have a
very lovely fragrance! These plants are from SIGNA seed 92Y345 that I grew
in pots until June 1994 when I planted them next to (not in) my herb garden
where they get a lot of sun. They have flowered and set seed every year
since. The soil they are growing in is nearly pure decomposed granite. It
drains *very* well. I do not water them directly but watering the herb
garden waters them because they are downslope from the garden which is a
raised bed garden edged with concrete blocks. I put composted chicken
manure in the openings of the blocks (they are set open end up) which are
nearest the iris. Putting water in these openings when the garden is
watered causes the manure nutrients to wash out slowly.

I should add that the decomposed granite is *not* our native soil. It is
soil that we added to fill in when we terraced that area. Our native soil
is rock and clay.
