John,

Spuria iris are rhizomatous although the rhizomes are woody and slender.
They like a rich moist soil only in the fall, winter and spring.  During
late summer they have a dormant period and water should be withheld. 
(As best you could in FL).  Since you are in the northern part of FL I'm
sure they will do fine for you.  Maybe someone else has input here.
