Iris borers are also absent from the West, where mildew is probably not the
threat that deters them. Either they never heard of Horace Greeley (Go
West, young borer!), or more likely, our lower moisture/humidity levels are
a factor. In the South perhaps it is temperature that inhibits them.
What we really need is to get Bill Shear out of the woods and back on-line
to untangle this puzzle.
(BTW, iris borers are mostly confined to the Northeastern quadrant of our
fair continent, but iris bores can probably thrive anywhere!) (<:
