It has been a strange growing season and it may be many seasons before I
have Japs blooming this late again. I'm proud to report that there is
one last bloom on 'Royal Crown' and 'Chigokesho' has a bloomstalk with
an open flower and one tight bud remaining. That's the same 'Chigokesho'
that won Queen of Show on June 22. The bloom is not show quality now,
but it is BLOOMING.
BTW, 'Royal Crown' has attracted Japanese beetles, but 'Chigokesho' has
not. The beetles always arrive around July 4, just as the JI are usually
finishing up.
