In a message dated 98-07-01 20:02:26 EDT, you write:
<< shall be a regular visitor to the Bendigo Macdonalds store in early
spring. An odd thing to say on iris-talk, but they have landscaped their
large car park with irises of various types - TB's, LA's, SDB's and
Spurias. Also Dietes. All set against a lavender and westringia hedge.
You can sit and look at the irises and not notice that what you're
eating tastes like &*%^. >>
Now that's what I call a "Happy Meal"!! (Gee, can you even get those at
McDonald's Down Under?) It's always interesting to hear what's going on in
the middle of your winter.
My iris season was officially over today as I picked the last faded JI bloom
(heavy sigh!!) Of course, the iris orders will start rolling in within the
next 3 weeks or so. That's always a blast for me. Except for the part when I
realize I've ordered far too much for the beds I have. Oops! Time to call
and have dirt delivered. I can't simply dig out a new bed, we have no, and I
mean zero, dirt! Our lot is comprised of total sand. A very fine powdery
sand. Either that or dig out all the iris I have that I'm not totally crazy
about to make room. Our iris society has their annual rhizome sale on Aug
2nd. Always fun to unload the extras and buy more of something else!
Take care,
