Good day, Listers,
I had the good fortune to obtain a new iris bed today. My husband had cut
down a pine tree which was about 16" in diameter. It was in a really choice
sunny spot in the front yard. We dug out the stump today which was a
nightmare!! We finally got it all out and my husband says "gee, I really
don't feel like seeding grass here, could you use another garden?". Yahoo! I
tried not to show how excited I was since I was secretly coveting this spot
for another garden. See, my poor husband has no clue how many irises will be
hitting the front porch in boxes in the next few weeks!
He is a great guy. He went to a farm nearby and collected a whole truckload
of big rocks to edge this bed with. He really busted his butt. He's having
dirt delivered Tuesday and I'm going to mix in a whole bunch of alfalfa meal
and some triple superphosphate. My irises will be ecstatic!! Not only that,
but the bed is sitting on pure sand and the drainage will be great.
How lucky can I get? I was worried about where I was going to plant all my
new "babies".
Cheers,
Linda Doffek West Bend, WI
