OT-BIO: Duane Buell

From: Duane Buell <dbuell@ptialaska.net>

I'll start with a big thanks to John Jones for taking the initiative to keep
the iris list going. In the short time I was involved with iris-l I learned
a tremendous amount about irises and other gardening practices as well.

I've lived in Juneau, Alaska since 1972, and made several attempts at
growing TB's over the years. They always faded away, and from what I learned
on iris-l, for the first time I was able to get some to survive over this
past winter. I'm gardening in zone 5b-6a, depending on where in my yard one
stands.

That success triggered something, and I now have somewhere around 100 named
varieties of TBs, SDBs, beardless and species in my yard. And then there's
about 20 or so unnamed or mis-named varieties.
