Doing a weird thing & responding to my own post. After checking in "The
World of Iris", I think there's a strong possibility the "Siberian" iris
I have is really the species iris, I. sanguinea, which is in the
Siberian classification. Several points of description match, including:
flower color & markings; hollow stems; bloomstalks about same height as
leaves; no branching; 2 buds per stem; shape of flowers.
Anybody else grow I. sanguinea? Or can anyone suggest where I might find
color photos of same?
Marte in the mtns Zone 4/Sunset 1 Colorado -- where it's continuing hot
& dry with very brief thundershowers most afternoons. The wildfire on
all-too-nearby Mt. Evans has been brought under control, I'm relieved to
say -- it was headed right for Evergreen (my town), roughly 10 miles
downslope from the fire's midpoint. Whew!
