I think the short season, the quick growth, and the sheer abundance
gives it the intensity you obviously were attuned to. I never seem to
get used to it after living here all my life.

Adak.. that must mean you were commercial fishing or fulfilling a
military stint. Not many people get there in any other capacity. I've
never been there yet. You must know the question that's coming - did you
by chance see any Iris there? I've heard reports of them at other spots
on the Aleutians, and it's an area I would love to explore but the
weather can be very nasty there for flying, which has prevented me up to
this point.

Sorry for taking so long to respond - I'm in and out of town most of the
summer, and can't get to my computer every day.
