This is a function of the email program you use (Eudora, Netscape, etc.),
not which service provider you use. Although almost every popular program
now does this as a matter of course, there are still a few that don't. One
of the original Iris-L policies was that everyone sign their postings with
their full name and email address, as a bare minimum. Of course, many
subscribers never bother to acquaint themselves with the policies or other
information in the welcome message.
As for people posting to the list about how to unsubscribe, I think we'll
still see about the same number of such messages. Most come from people who
didn't pay attention to the instructions they got when they joined, or
didn't even notice they had gotten instructions. That's a phenomenon that
has nothing to do with where the listserver is located. In some cases, the
listserver program itself was a problem, but anyone who had read the
instructions knew to contact me privately when having difficulties with the
listserver.
