Soft Rot

Jeff Walters has suggested using an antibiotic in the treatment of
bacterial soft rot. I am in total agreement with him -but- he has chosen
the wrong one in Terramycin. Terramycin is not a "mycin" per se. It is 
actually oxytretracycline which is not type specific for Erwinia
carotovora. The only antibiotic that is specific for Erwinia is
Streptomycin. It is available at most farm stores as 'Agri-strep' in 8
oz packages of water soluble powder. I have been using it for the last
25 years and when used properly (i.e. label directions) cures the soft
rot within 24 hours.
