Welcome to the crazy and addicting world of iris.  At the recent
convention it was noted that when one prominent hybridizer asked why
some of the newer members got  involved in iris and hybridizing iris it
was the small booklet 
"BASIC IRIS CULTURE"
It is available from the AIS store front for $1.50.  You can visit the

You may want to check with someone from Region 20 to see if it is
available in your local chapter.    There are several of them on the
list.  I know that we always have this book for sale.  It has helped me
a lot.  Not that I am ever going to go the route of the hybridizer.  I
just can't seem to get enough different iris in bloom at the same time
in my small garden so I will leave the really tough work to others
