Last weekend we held our annual Auction and Raffle for CBRIS (Clara B Rees
Iris Society, San Jose CA) with members bidding on donated recent ('95 or
newer) Intro's. Perhaps the most spirited bidding occurred for a TDF rhizome
of TOM JOHNSON showing at least 6 increase buds. As the bidding got high
Chris D. exclaimed, 'hey you all can keep bidding this up on me and I'll
just order it from Aitken's ! The auctioneers retort - But would they send
you this rhizome ? Anyhow, Chris prevailed in the end and was proudly
showing off her latest QOS (Queen of Sale). Being somewhat of a cheapskate,
my favorite part of the auction comes at the end when we sell off the 'toes'
- pieces very small, w/o leaves and sometimes not even showing buds - for
$1.00 each to the first bidder. I will happily wait an extra year for
CRANBERRY COOLER, SELECT CIRCLE and YES to bloom from the pieces I bought.
On Saturday, August 1 We will be holding our Annual Rhizome Sale to the
Public, at the DeAnza Flea Market in Cupertino CA. 100's of different named
varieties will all be sold at $2.00 each. We have the Iris in boxes
separated by colors etc.
