Hello list,

In list discussions back in IRIS-L days, a description of mine apparently
went awry and I realized some folks even differentiated between 'light' and
'pale' as applied to a color. Also, the discussion which arose regarding
pthalocyanine blue elicited differing takes on descriptions on irises, both
from listers and from catalogues. I decided then that any future attempts
at color descriptions on my part would entail borrowing the PMS color
charts from the printshop where I work so I could match the color. Dull,
dull, dull. It will give an accurate reference for the color, but no
connotations
for the effect the iris bloom gives and would be useless as a textural
point
of reference. Still, it seems to me that there must be some way to convey
a description which would result in a more accurate perception than is
currently available.
