FOR ANNER WHITEHEAD: In the San Francisco East Bay Area we treat them like
beadless iris and we plant them in the fall. I suspect in the North and the
East where the winters are so very harsh spring would be appropriate. Thank
 you for the other info. I will pass it along to my friend. Last fall I
mailed him several different ones of I. cristata. It was mailed to me by
Siskiyou Gardens within 5 days. I checked on each of them and prepared anew
for shipping to France. Used Air Express (very expensive) and he received
them in another 5 days.  The last time I heard they were doing well.-FRT.
