Iris lacustris is actually an Evansia iris--- that is a crested iris---and the
preferred time for division and transplant of Evansias is immediately after
bloom in the Spring.

It is a rare iris that greatly resembles I. cristata but has been accorded
independent specific status. It is native to the Great Lakes region and
Ontario and grows in sandy coniferous woods and calcareous rocks. I would be
concerned about the differences in climate between Ontario and the south of
France.
