Re: LA irises

From: "Patrick O'Connor" <swamp@ix.netcom.com>

I grow Louisianas but have no experience crossing them with other species.
I know that Ken Durio of Opelousas, LA has crossed tet Louisianas with I.
virginica. The result was striking, a flower that had some of the
distinctive markings of virginicas but the larger flower size of the
Louisianas. Most Louisianas are still diploids and hybridizers still work
mostly with those. I have never heard of successful inter series crosses
with diploid Louisiansas. With the tets, who knows the possibilities?
Some of the other beardless species, perhaps I. pseudocorus, might be the
most likely.
