Today our local paper (SJ Mercury News) reported that Finnish researchers
have discovered a "hole" in many popular E-mail programs including Netscape
and Microsoft Outlook Express. Some companies have published patches on
their respective websites that address the problem, if you are not sure you
may want to try to contact your company. The nature of the hole is that the
message headers contain the destructive operations and it includes an
attachment - however downloading the attachment is not required to trigger
the action. In fact just deleting a message w/o reading it is not protection
enough under some SW.
To date no-one has identified such an EMAIL message so don't panic, but try
and find out if a patch is required for your SW.
Please do not repeat or forward this message - I am not trying to create a
chain here.
